RECRUITMENT TO 41 POSTS OF ASSISTANT ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER (GROUP-A) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENT, GOVERNMENT OF PUNJAB

1. Introduction

 
  • The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) is established under Article 315 of the Constitution of India for recruiting officials in various Government departments based on requisitions received from the Government.
  • The current recruitment is for 41 posts of Assistant Environmental Engineer (Group-A) in the Department of Science, Technology, and Environment, Government of Punjab.

2. Number and Reservation of Posts

  • Total Posts: 41 posts, including 32 previously advertised and 9 new posts.
  • Reservation Breakdown:
    • General: 17 posts (4 reserved for women).
    • General, Economically Weaker Section (Punjab): 4 posts (1 reserved for women).
    • Ex-Serviceman/LDESM (Punjab): 3 posts (1 reserved for women).
    • Sports Person (Punjab): 1 post (1 reserved for women).
    • Persons with Disability (Punjab): 1 post (1 reserved for women).
    • Scheduled Castes (Others) (Punjab): 3 posts (1 reserved for women).
    • SC ESM/LDESM (Punjab): 1 post.
    • SC Others Sports Person (Punjab): 1 post.
    • Balmiki/Mazbhi Sikhs (Punjab): 4 posts (2 reserved for women).
    • Balmiki/Mazbhi Sikhs ESM/LDESM (Punjab): 1 post.
    • Backward Classes (Punjab): 4 posts (1 reserved for women).
    • Backward Classes Ex-Serviceman/LDESM (Punjab): 1 post.

3. Initial Pay

  • The minimum pay is ₹47,600 per month during the probation period of 3 years. Only the basic pay is provided, without any allowances.

4. Essential Qualifications

  • Educational Qualification: First Class degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environment Engineering from a recognized University or Institution.
  • Language Requirement: Candidates must have passed Punjabi at the Matriculation level or its equivalent. Exceptions apply to certain categories like wards of Defence Service Personnel and War Heroes.
  • Qualification Date: Candidates must possess the requisite qualification by 23/08/2024.

5. Age Criteria

  • General Age Limit: Candidates must be between 18 and 37 years of age as of 01/01/2024.
  • Age Relaxation:
    • Up to 45 years for Punjab Government employees.
    • Up to 42 years for Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes of Punjab.
    • Ex-servicemen of Punjab Domicile may deduct the period of service in the Armed Forces from their actual age, with a maximum 3-year grace period.
    • Up to 42 years for widows, divorcees, and certain other categories of women.
    • Up to 47 years for Persons with Disability (PwD) of Punjab.

6. Pattern and Scheme of Competitive Examination

  • Selection Process:
    • Written Competitive Examination: The exam consists of 120 questions worth 480 marks.
    • Interview: The interview is worth 60 marks.
    • Total Marks: 540 marks.
    • Revised Exam Date: The written competitive examination for the post of Assistant Environmental Engineer in the Department of Science, Technology & Environment, Government of Punjab, which was originally scheduled for 29/09/2024 (Sunday), has been revised to 06/10/2024 (Sunday). The exam will be conducted from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM.
  • Examination Details:
    • The exam is divided into four parts:
      • Part A: Subject-specific questions - 90 questions (360 marks).
      • Part B: General Knowledge & Current Affairs - 10 questions (40 marks).
      • Part C: General Mental Ability, Logical Reasoning & Quantitative Aptitude - 10 questions (40 marks).
      • Part D: Punjabi language - 10 questions (40 marks).
    • The language of the exam is English.
    • Negative marking: 1 mark is deducted for each wrong answer.
  • Interview:
    • Only candidates scoring at least 40% in the written exam (35% for SC/BC of Punjab) will be shortlisted for the interview.
    • Final selection is based on the aggregate score from the written exam and the interview.

7. Nationality

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India, or a citizen of Nepal or Bhutan, or a refugee/migrant from specified countries as detailed in the notice.

8. Submission of Application

  • Mode: Applications must be submitted online via the PPSC website.
  • Important Dates:
    • The last date for submission of the online application and payment of fees is 23/08/2024 by 11:59 PM.

9. Application and Examination Fee

  • Fee Structure:
    • Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes of all States and Backward Classes of Punjab: ₹750/-
    • Ex-Servicemen of Punjab: ₹500/-
    • Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), PwD, LDESM Punjab: ₹500/-
    • All Other Categories (General, Sports Persons of Punjab, Wards of Freedom Fighters): ₹1500/-
  • Payment Mode: Online only. The fee is non-refundable.
