The Patiala and East Punjab States Union (PEPSU) was merged into Punjab state on 1st November 1956 following the recommendations of the States Reorganization Act, 1956.
13th April, 1919
The Jallianwala Bagh tragedy occurred on 13th April 1919 in Amritsar, Punjab. British troops, led by General Dyer, opened fire on a peaceful gathering, killing hundreds of unarmed civilians.
Guru Arjan Dev
Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, composed "Sukhmani Sahib", which is included in the Adi Granth (Guru Granth Sahib).
Afghan King Shah Shuja
Maharaja Ranjit Singh acquired the Kohinoor diamond from Afghan King Shah Shuja in 1813. Shah Shuja sought refuge in Punjab and handed over the diamond to Ranjit Singh in exchange for his protection and support. The Kohinoor later became part of British Crown Jewels after the annexation of Punjab in 1849.
Jahangir
Guru Arjan Dev Ji, the fifth Sikh Guru, was martyred on 30th May 1606 during the reign of Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
